If you have a new website or an existing site that just isn’t ranked well in directory listings by Google, AOL, MSN, Alexa and other major search engines, you have a problem. Simply stated, how are your prospects going to find you or even know that you exist?
This is a problem because people search directories by using keywords and phrases that tell the search engines what to look for. And there are usually tens of thousands or even many millions of listings in popular categories. For example, suppose you have a website that sells used cars. People searching will generally enter “used cars” or “sellers of used cars” into their browser.
Using Google as an example, there are 88,200,000 individual listings under “used cars”. With 10 listings per page, that means there are 8,820,000 pages with 10 listings on each. Under “sellers of used cars” there are fewer, but still Google lists 4,720,000 individual listings on 472,000 pages. You can bet that th
ose people listed on the first few pages under these categories are the ones who get most of the visitors.
You don’t have to be Albert Einstein to quickly see that the only way anyone will find your listing is to get it on the first 5-10 pages. Most people lose patience after scrolling through 5 or 10 pages. If you’re on page 50, 100 or 1,000, don’t expect any traffic. None!..
